Ayodhya Dispute
Wikipedia Article
I was reading through some of the comments on my introduction page and forgot that Professor Gibbs recommended the Ayodhya dispute based on my interest in the Temple Mount dispute. I was not aware of the Ayodhya dispute before this class, and I am shocked at how similar the situation is to the one in Jerusalem. Hindus believe the sacred land to be the birthplace of Rama.
Archaeology of Ayodhya
Wikipedia Article
I saw in the article about the dispute that while the Babri Mosque was standing, Hindus claimed that it was built on the remains of a Ram Temple dedicated to Rama. Since we just finished reading the Ramayana, and I had some mixed feelings about Rama, it was interesting to see that he is still such an important figure in Hinduism. Archaeological excavations tried to get to the bottom of the dispute and discovered remnants of a temple, but the findings were inconclusive as to exactly what kind of temple, and now these findings are widely disputed by Buddhism, Hinduism, Jainism, and Islam, which all want claim to the land. It is interesting that places mentioned in the Ramayana epic were used as a basis for archaeological excavation sites in the 1960's and 1970's.
Supreme Court of India
Wikipedia Article
The Archaeology article mentioned that Babri Mosque supporters petitioned for the Supreme Court of India to prohibit excavation at the site, but the Supreme Court rejected this petition. Being pre-law, specifically international law, I thought this link would be interesting because I wanted to see how legal matters were resolved in India.

Constitution of India
Wikipedia Article
I was curious to see how India's Constitution compared to the U.S. Constitution. The article actually has a breakdown of what parts of India's Constitution comes from different country's constitutions. Quite a bit came from the U.S. and U.K.
